Input Data Source Options

Clicking on the Data Source button will provide the available file types that can used in ContactGenie QuickPort as an input Data Source.

Availability of Access'2007 and Excel '2007 file types will depend strictly on whether or not the appropriate system file drivers are found (installed automatically if using Office '2007 but would otherwise require manual installation). CG programs do not install any file based components of any kind.

Text Files

If a custom delimited file is selected, it will be necessary to first provide the custom delimiter character(s) - CQP supports a 1 or 2 character delimiter.

The default text qualifier character used to parse fields in a text file is a double-quote < " > which will also work if the fields are not qualified.

A field delimiter character must be used to properly extract field information that contains an end-of-line character (i.e. a multi-line street address field).

If the text qualifier character used is not a double quote, it can be changed and the file will be retrieved again in an attempt to correctly parse the field information.

About CSV files for international users

CSV files created/used by QuickPort will always be delimited by a comma. When a Microsoft Excel worksheet is saved as a CSV file, the regional list separator character is used as the delimitor which in many countries is different then the comma. In those case, if the file is to be used as an CQP input data source, it must be selected as a <Custom Delimited> file and you must designate the list separator character as the delimitor. Microsoft Outlook always expects a CSV file to be <comma delimited> and will not import a CSV file saved by MS Excel in these situations.

About Tab delimited files created by Microsoft Outlook

Tab delimited files exported by Outlook which contain multi-line fields (i.e. BusinessAddressStreet), will not be correctly parsed if opened in Microsoft Excel or Access. CQP will correctly process these files provided that the text qualifiier character is set to a double quote.

Excel & Access

If only one table/worksheet is contained in the selected file, it will automatically used by default as the input data source. If more than one table/worksheet is found, a specific table/worksheet must be selected:

The initial selection can be changed at any time by making another selection via the Table/Worksheet drop down box.
